"In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful." - Alice Walker Life is laid out in flaws. Flaws define a human, and with flaws we grow. As a young girl Gianna understood the concept, but she refused to conform and accept that everyone has to have them. Instead Gia grew up taking in the mistakes and faults of her surrounding family and friends. From these imperfections she began to shape herself. She defied the theory that personality is based off those you live among, and began to mold into the person she wanted to be. This started with being the perfect person. For so long perfection seemed out of reach as she watched the world revolve around her with so many shortcomings and failures. To her, failure was no longer an option. This aspiration for perfection soon elevated to an obsession and slowly, but surely, morphed into a dominant trait in her personality. Everything in her life had to be perfect; the perfect grades, faultless appearance, everything down to her penmanship was boasted by parents and professors. The praise merely fed this desperation for the impeccable life. As this trait begins to grow she finds it harder and harder to deal with the imperfect. Coaxing her flawless outer is Gianna's stubborn side. Only the most headstrong would be unyielding in their quest to void their lives from all things blemished. Although she does not always have to be right, Gianna found that, more commonly than not, she is correct in her view. This observation just gives way to mule-ish qualities. Though being stubborn could be considered a flaw, Gianna has turned it into a strength making it a defense mechanism. Not to mention using it as an excuse for her outspoken ways. Having the last word, blatant refusal to give up on a task, and other situations can commonly be seen as a result of this trait. When push comes to shove, Gianna stands her ground. "Three's a crowd." With her desire for perfection and her lack thereof to pull back comes Gia's outspoken qualities. She is often seizing the quality to point out that, yes, you are being an idiot. More times than most, a bicker arises tying in her unyielding personality. However, this trait has been following her since day one and, though she has tried, she cannot find the strength to hold her tongue. A lack of compassion for blathering bimbos, it can be called. Gianna, however, finds that being outspoken is a trait that comes with having strong opinions. Though this habit can get her into trouble, she has taken it upon herself to look out for others and this involves speaking out against bullies. All in all, Gianna is a strong headed young lady with broad ideals of perfection that she is constantly reaching toward. Stubborn and outspoken qualities at bay, she can often be found as a very sweet girl.
FATHER: Graham Pritchard - A graduated Slytherin, Gianna's relationship with her dad is generally normal. There aren't any inside jokes or secret handshakes, but they would never be found bickering on the stairwell. She writes to Graham often to tell him about Hogwarts and her life. MOTHER: Orla Pritchard (previously Quirke) - A graduated Ravenclaw, Gianna and Orla are a lot alike in personality. Even if they tend to butt heads during heated debates, Gia consider her mom as one of her closest relationships. When they are not arguing about this or that, the two are usually laughing or joking about something. BROTHER: Zachary Pritchard - A seventh year Ravenclaw, Gianna is reasonably close to her older brother. As two students attending the same school they are constantly shoved together, but they tend to spend their days apart. Gia usually turns to her older brother for advice or company when she is homesick.
"I said to cut it out!" Gianna demanded as she met the boy eye to eye. Their body types clashed as his tall, boyish frame overpowered her's by nearly a foot. "Leave him alone," she instructed in her most demanding voice, but the towering boy did not seem to be phased. Gia could feel herself growing hot with anger, the red rising to her pale cheeks. It was time for her to settle this matter once and for all. They had gone along with this boy's attitude for far too long. With a jerk, she pulled back her arm and sent it flying to meet the boy's stomach. As he let out a yelp before falling to the ground, Gianna grabbed the boy she had been defending's hand and began to run. Even as they practically soared past the trees of the park, the eight year olds could not outrun the eleven year old bully. His footsteps could be heard as he gained on them. "Split up!" she yelled over the whooshing in their ears. "Left," and she sent the boy running left just as she veered right. This confused the bully for a moment before he took off after Gianna. Even at a young age, Gia had a slender frame and found herself flying down the beaten path, but her legs were growing weary and was she. She needed to stop. No, you're almost home. Her mind focused on reaching her room, the navy blue of her walls, the soft of her bed. "Gia!" the young girl sat up abruptly and looked around. The comfort of her bed had become a reality, the navy blue was now staring her in the face. Had that been a dream? She looked at her tiny hands and saw the cut from falling as she had run to meet the bully and the boy before the chase and the bickering had begun. It hadn't been a dream... "Mum! I'm a witch!" Gianna's first encounter with her magical powers had been a confusing ride. After she had found a boy in the sandpit being shoved around by a much older, meaner boy it had been her duty to defend. From then on out Gianna learned not to test her limits or else find herself accidentally using her magical powers. On various occasions in her childhood, however, emotions took control and she could be found wandering the streets of Paris or dancing on a corner in Rome. The bully eventually learned to leave Gia, and her friends, alone and find another park to wreak havoc upon. She was eight when her magical powers first took control following in the steps of her mother. "What's this story called?" Gianna's mother asked as she glanced up from dinner preparations to see the young girl take a seat at the table. Gia was doing her trademark "serious" stance where she folded her hands and watched her mother until she turned to face the child. "When Popsicle Paul Goes to Paris," she informed in her most serious voice. "It's about a popsicle named Paul who has lost his beret. So he goes to Paris to buy a new one." Carefully, Gia opened the book to the first page. "Can I read it?" she asked curiously looking up at her mother. The answer was obvious, but as a kid Gia liked to pretend she was an adult. "Please, I need something to entertain me while I make dinner," Orla said just as seriously. And so the storytelling began about the popsicle who lost his beret and, eventually, found a new one and a nice tie to match. As a young girl, Gia defied typical child behavior. She was more interested in reading and writing as opposed to coloring and building castles. Orla encouraged her individuality and, eventually, expressed her theory on the possibility of Gia becoming an author. Of course, she took to this goal right away and wrote stories about the most random things. This stories slowly progressed into tales with plot and interesting characters. However, when the perfection parade took over Gianna she began to question being an author. She could not see being an author as a perfect job. Some never made it anywhere, and then she would have wasted too much time. As the thoughts progressed so did her distance from the idea of writing as being her dream job. Even if, deep down, she knows that it is the only job she sees herself doing. "I need a wand," Gianna said eagerly pulling on her mother's purse. "It says right here that I need a wand," her finger outlined the words for the tenth time since they had arrived. "I know, honey, but we need to get you robes and books, too," Orla said pushing the hair from her face. "We have plenty of time to get your wand. It won't go any where." Gianna took the opportunity of Hogwarts to put the finishing touches on being flawless. With the perfect grades and performance there was nothing that could go wrong in her life. As her eleventh birthday rolled around, she awaited eagerly for the day she would get on the Hogwarts Express and be whisked away to the school of witchcraft. The stories her brother had told her were magnificent. The ceiling, the ghosts, the secret passage ways, the professors, all of the magic went to her head. On the day she went shopping for all of her school supplies, her mother could barely keep her still and, in the end, had to buy her a kitten to keep her from jumping overboard. With the distraction given, Orla managed to whisk through the rest of the shopping and send Gianna off with all the things she needed. To Gia (like many others), Hogwarts was a second home. She had her friends, her table, her room, her stuff - it was all there whenever she needed it, but Hogwarts was also her school. After settling down in her first year, Gia cracked the whip on her grades and studying. She refused to be distracted, like the girls in her house, by boys or relationships. Instead, she listened to the girls complain about their boyfriends while she finished her History of Magic essay. Laughed as they discussed kissing horror stories while, simultaneously, practiced levitating candles and trinkets. And comforted them with "he's a pig" talk during major study sessions. It is not as though boys had not chased after her looking for her attention, no, it is merely that she chose not to acknowledge them. "When I graduate and have time," she would shrug and say. "Until then, I'm fine with where I am and what I have." Her friends would tsk but accept the answer. Now in her sixth year, Gia is still aspiring for a job, grade, and a boy that will fit into her perfect lifestyle.
At the height of five foot seven Gia has finally quit growing leaving her with a slender, model-like frame. Although most girls with Gianna's body type would seize the opportunity to dress however they like, she is happy wearing her school skirt, vest, tie, and collared shirt (washed and ironed, of course). Gianna, much unlike her brother, is practically a mirror image of Orla, her mother. They share the same red, brown hair and flawless white complexion. Not to mention face shape, lips, and ears; much to her mother's delight, they are commonly mistaken for sisters. Gia does, however, flaunt the light freckles and crystal blue eyes so accustomed to the Pritchard family. Generally, Gia can be found in her school's dress code with her hair parted perfectly, make-up applied flawlessly, and flats scuff free. It's all part of her campaign for perfection.
